The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish true story about the fallen religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, overdone appearance and insincerity, however Chastain manages to show the character with compassion. October 14th, 1.15am, Film4
