The skiing legend Confident of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Racing in the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
