Over 36,000 Sudanese have fled after takeover of El Fasher to RSF, states UN agency

In excess of 36,000 individuals have fled Sudan's Kordofan region eastern part of Darfur starting Saturday, as stated by the UN's immigration body.

Area Inhabitants Describe Safety Fears

A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the number of RSF vehicles had increased considerably since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We stopped going to our farms, afraid of fighting," the local commented.

Another inhabitant, who sought confidentiality for security reasons, also reported that "there has been a substantial growth in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

International Warnings and Appeals

A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "large-scale atrocities" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The official warned of patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.

The religious leader on Sunday urged an prompt truce and the opening of aid passageways in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the paramilitary group.

The ambassador further called on the world nations to classify the group as a terrorist entity.
