The speculation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
