Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
