NFL 2025 season: Week six

It's week six of the football calendar , after recent discussion regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as a potential Super Bowl match-up, each surrendered their perfect starts.

Striking during those contests was the number of infractions each committed. Philadelphia committed them in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns entering the fourth period against Denver, who play in London this Sunday.

Early on in the campaign, we said during a show that the Broncos might emerge as the current year's surprise contenders. They ended the previous year well and did a good job of building upon that.

New tight end their tight end has stepped up significantly and new running back their rusher is a player the team trusts. He now ranks fifth league-wide for rushing yards (402) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).

That shows how the Broncos are a squad aiming to run first, because you can achieve much based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush while keeps you in favourable down and distances.

It's also benefited quarterback the young passer, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick last year, passing for 29 TDs – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs have powerful arms to throw anywhere, but they don't move the mobility that Nix has. He boasts exceptional passing ability, a unique trait, and he's so athletic.

His assets are his mobility, the capacity to throw on the run, and finding varied release points to make throws when he rolls outside protection, on rollouts. He can throw that layered pass across the middle or past defenders.

As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got great poise under pressure and is not bothered by the blitz. He aims to evade a sack as much as possible and can pass under pressure. He has sharp intelligence and is very decisive.

If you constantly run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and if you've got a mobile QB the defense must defend the area vertically side to side. It can be exhausting.

Nix has pushed back at Payton on the sideline at times and I think Payton likes that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. In my view it's fun for him to coach a young quarterback who's kind of like moldable clay. The coach can really develop him how he desires to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for the coach.

The head coach has won a Super Bowl and now passed a legend for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. I think the achievements the Broncos are having offensively is mostly due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids make him into who he is.

There's no better a more qualified person guiding you, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.

I have faith in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to face an elite team at full strength? Because that was not championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.

Currently, it's unlikely the Broncos are elite. They're performing above average, that's a good place to be in the AFC West. All they need to do to continue this path.

They excel at leaning into their forte, that is running the ball, and this is precisely what they must do versus the Jets in London. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, essentially.

The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (10th worst), and they are the sole squad without a win a game.

Since the league started recording takeaways in 1933, the Jets are also the first team to be without any turnovers through five games, which is surprising when you think that the head coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.

After this Sunday's game, the Broncos have a manageable slate until their bye (in week twelve) - the Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus the Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Looking at their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 so they could challenge for the top of the division.
