Ethiopia Welcomes Historic Artefacts Following a Century Holding in German Hands

A total of Twelve historical objects were formally restored to the Ethiopian nation after being kept by a family in Germany for in excess of a century.

The artefacts, first acquired in the early twentieth century by Germany's representative to Ethiopia a German envoy and his wife Hedwig, were delivered on this past Wednesday to the research center at Addis Ababa University.

This collection contained royal crowns, shields and paintings, each considered as historically significant in Ethiopia.

"These items continue to represent a emblem of the long-standing and amicable relationship between the German nation and the Ethiopian people," remarked Germany's envoy, the ambassador to Ethiopia.

Professor Ramon Wyss, whose parent was delivered during the family's service in Ethiopia, handed over the objects at a ceremony joined by Tourism Minister the tourism official.

He stated that the household's goal to restore the treasures was to "showcase their beauty with the public and maintain the culture and past connected to my father's origin."

The artefacts were either donations or purchases, based on the household.

"We want to thank the Weiss household for practically showing their profound affection for the nation by carefully preserving these treasures and vitally securing their repatriation to their legitimate homeland," said the official.

She added that the items would shortly be made accessible to the public for investigation and academic study, describing the action a significant step in preserving Ethiopia's national treasures.

"Efforts will continue to repatriate old artifacts that are located in the custody of private persons and organizations all over the planet," the minister stated.

In the era of imperial control in Africa, thousands of cultural objects were looted.

The demand by nations in Africa for the restoration of looted objects has been met with a degree of success in recent years - even if several artefacts are merely on short-term display.
