Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had caused some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
