Brian Eno Calls On Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.

A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.

“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”

Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.

“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”

Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup

The song was recorded in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.

The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The song blends a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The group managing the project have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These proceeds will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.

“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The situation in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.

“In that context, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”

The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
