Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
